Mota still had more in his Motor!!
Manny Mota was almost exclusively used as a pinch-hitter from 1974 (age 36) on. And boy, was he good at it! In fact, from 1977 on thru 1979, then for 7 at bats after being activated late in 1980 at age 42, and again fro 1 at bat in 1982, he finished his career with an amazing 42 hits in his last 121 at bats, for an average of .347. Add in 16 walks in those years, and his on-base percentage was .423!!
Incidently in the FIRST 3 years of being almost exclusively a pinch-hitter, from 1975-77, his average wasn't as impressive (.2785 on 44 for 158) but he had an incredible 39 RBIs on those 158 ABs!! (37 for 132 as pinch-hitter in those years, with 33 pinch-hit RBIs)
